Laser treatment, how does it work?

More and more people see laser hair removal as an ideal solution in the fight against unwanted hair growth. Laser hair removal is safe and effective, giving permanent effect. But how exactly does that laser work? Does lasering hurt? And are the hairs really gone permanently?

All laser hair removal treatments at The Laser Lab are the only ones in Amsterdam using the Soprano Titanium

Goodbye unwanted hair growth

How does it work….

Your body hair contains pigment (melanin). The more pigment, the darker the hairs. This pigment absorbs the heat of a laser beam. The heat reaches the hair follicle, which cannot withstand this and breaks down. The hair then does not grow back.

Blonde and gray hairs contain hardly any pigment. So there is nothing that can absorb the heat. Because of this, laser hair removal for light hairs is unfortunately not possible.

So what about dark skin, you may ask? With many laser devices, this is indeed a problem. After all, dark or sun-tanned skin also contains a lot of pigment. Our device, the Soprano Titanium, is suitable for all skin types. People with colored or tanned skin can also get hair removal safely with us.

Not all hair at once

Your hair grows in 3 stages:

  1. The hair grows (phase 1)
  2. The hair stops growing and slowly loses pigment (phase 2)
  3. The hair falls out and a new hair begins to grow (phase 3)

This process takes several weeks. Laser hair removal is most effective on hair in stage 1, when it is full of pigment. This is why we always do 6 to 9 laser treatments, even on a small area. Then every hair has gone through the growth cycle and we can be sure you get maximum results.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes, laser hair removal is safe. To protect your eyes from the laser light, everyone in the room wears special laser goggles. This is mandatory with us.

With a professional laser treatment, you don’t have to worry about burns or other skin damage. Shortly after lasering, the skin may be a bit red and sensitive, but if this happens it will go away smoothly.

It is important to know that hormones greatly affect your skin and make it more sensitive. Laser hair removal during pregnancy is therefore not possible. Do you have hormone-related symptoms or take hormonal medication? Always let us know so we can take this into account.

Does lasering hurt?

At The Laser Lab, we work with the Soprano Titanium, a state-of-the-art laser device. With this, many people experience the laser as completely painless thanks to the unique ICE Plus technology that cools your skin during the laser process. It may feel a little glowing or tingling. Some people talk about short, mild punctures.

Is laser hair removal really permanent?

The honest answer is: no, not always. The lasered hairs can grow back, for example, under the influence of hormone fluctuations or medications. This often takes several years. In addition, far fewer hairs grow back than you had beforehand, and the hairs that grow back are softer and thinner.

So we cannot guarantee that you will be 100% hair free for the rest of your life, but we can guarantee that you will have permanent effects from the laser treatments.
